We are looking to add a skilled and experienced Baker/Pastry Chef to our team in the role ofHead Baker, as we expand to our brand new 2800 sq ft Fishtown location. This role contributes to Essen Bakery’s success by setting a commendable standard of craftsmanship and organization, and supporting the Kitchen Manager by taking on extra duties to ensure superior quality, a motivated staff, and seamless operations. Summary of Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following: Ensure that all food and products are consistently prepared and served according to the company’s recipes and standards and monitors sanitation practices to ensure that all employees follow standards and regulations. Assist the Kitchen Manager in planning daily production schedules, and appropriate cleaning schedules. Maintain inventory levels of all prepared food items and raw ingredients and place daily orders for ingredients and supplies needed to ensure efficient operation. Ensure that all products are ordered according to company standards and forecasted production schedules and received in correct unit count and condition. Supervise and instruct bakers or workers engaged in food preparation and provide helpful feedback and support. Produce consistent results in the production of baked goods. Maintain valid serv-safe certification and food safety personnel certificate from the City of Philadelphia Qualifications Three years experience combined as a Baker, Pastry Cook, Pastry Chef or Head Baker Knowledgeable in all food safety practices Strong familiarity with all bakery equipment including functionality, maintenance and safety measures. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships Excellent time management skills Ability to work in a clean and organized fashion and to work at a fast pace Ability to provide oral and written instructions effectively and to provide constructive feedback in a professional manner Strong interpersonal skills and effective team leader Ability to lift heavy items Flexibility to work on weekends and holidays and early morning shifts Benefits Primary healthcare benefits Paid Time Off, 3 hour accrual per payroll, redeemable after 28 weeks Opportunity for bonuses Please note: this position will begin in our current commissary kitchen, however, we will be moving out soon into our new second location with large kitchen, which is located at 110 W Berks St Philadelphia PA 19122.
